Getting started
Signing into the Cradle desktop app
Cradle uses your Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 work account to sign in, there's no separate Cradle password.
Cradle uses your Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 work account to sign in. There is no Cradle username, no Cradle password, and no Cradle two-factor prompt, sign-in is handled entirely by Google or Microsoft.
Before you start
- Your Cradle admin has invited you and added you to your organisation.
- You know which work account the invitation went to, Google or Microsoft.
- You can sign in to that account in a browser (
accounts.google.comoroffice.com).
Steps
The flow is the same on Windows and macOS. The only difference is the keyboard shortcut for quitting the app at the end.
- Open the Cradle desktop app.
- On the welcome screen, click Log in with Google or Log in with Microsoft, matching the work account your admin invited.
- Cradle hands you off to your default web browser. Sign in to Google or Microsoft as you normally would. Pick your work account from the picker, or choose Use another account and enter your work email.
- Enter your work password if Google or Microsoft prompts you.
- Approve any multi-factor prompt your organisation requires. The prompt comes from Google or Microsoft, not Cradle.
- Click Allow when asked to let Cradle access your contacts and calendar. Cradle needs this to match incoming callers to people in your address book.
- The browser hands you back to the Cradle desktop app and you're in. If your browser asks whether it can open Cradle, click Open or Allow.
You're in.
What you should see
You land on the call tab, which lists your past calls. Your presence dot sits in the top right of the app. The dial pad isn't visible by default; it's a small icon at the top of the call tab, click it when you want to dial a number directly. The header also has a search box you can type a name or a number into.
If you signed in with the wrong account, sign out from the Help menu (see Signing out and switching accounts) and start again.
If it doesn't work
Three things cover almost every sign-in failure:
- Your work password isn't working in a browser either. The fix is in your Google or Microsoft account, not in Cradle. Try
accounts.google.comoraccount.microsoft.comrecovery. - The browser opens but doesn't hand you back to Cradle. The browser-to-app handoff didn't fire. Quit Cradle and try again; if it loops, your local credential cache is probably stale. See What do I do if Cradle won't log in?.
- You see "user is not authorised". Your admin may have removed you from the organisation. Ask them to re-invite you.
