Phone numbers
How can I port my current number to Cradle?
Bring your existing business phone number across to Cradle.
Start your port at cradle.io/porting. The wizard collects the bill, the numbers you want to keep, and the authorisation we need from you, and produces the Letter of Authorisation ready to sign. It covers New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
You'll need:
- A copy of your most recent bill for the number you want to port (showing your address, company name, the number, and your account number with your current provider).
- The numbers you want to bring across, and which ones to cancel.
- An authorised signatory's name and email.
How long does it take?
Porting typically takes about two weeks once we've got the completed paperwork. It can be as quick as three business days or as long as six weeks depending on your current provider and the type of number.
What happens before the port is complete?
Your number keeps going through your existing phone lines until the port lands. Keep your current phone account active until we confirm the port is done.
We'll contact you during the porting period to give you an approximate date and time for the change.
If you want to start using Cradle straight away, we can set up a temporary Cradle number and have your current provider forward calls to it.
Does it cost anything?
Porting fees vary by number type. We'll quote it before we start.
What happens once the port is complete?
Your number shows up in your Cradle account under Numbers. Assign it to a Rule so incoming calls follow your routing:
- Click the number on the Numbers page.
- Select a Rule.
You can also set this number as the default caller ID or local presence number for your People:
- Click People.
- Click the person's card.
- Set the default caller ID or local presence number.
Your previous provider will usually send a final invoice and close your account. We recommend confirming this with them directly. Keep your service with them active until we confirm the port is done.
A note on UK non-geographic numbers
If you're porting a UK non-geographic number (for example 080 numbers), the wizard handles those too. There's a separate continuation sheet attached to the Letter of Authorisation for them.
